The Eleanor Kidd Botanical Garden, City of Brandon, Manitoba, Canada

The Eleanor Kidd Botanical Garden is one of many sites developed as part of the Brandon Assiniboine River Master Plan. The garden establishes a formal gathering space that embraces community and regional identity.  The concept behind the design is meant to highlight Brandon’s horticultural traditions and emulate the variety of colour and textures from the surrounding valley.  Lombard North Group was involved in the design, development of construction drawings and project management of the garden during its construction phase.

The Eleanor Kidd Botanical Garden was officially opened on Canada Day, July 1st, 2002 and “has emerged as a popular centrepiece in a city that prides itself as a community in bloom.” The site is situated next to the Assiniboine River and is located along Brandon’s Riverbank Trail System, a trail which is part of a network of other trails that provide access to pedestrians and cyclists. The garden offers visitors an area to sit and relax or take leisurely walks. Aside from the great variety of plants and flowers exhibited, the garden also includes a raised stage, a fountain plaza, a gazebo and a bronze deer sculpture created by renowned Manitoba artist Peter Sawatzky.
