The Brandon Riverbank Discovery Centre and Outdoor Interpretive Trail, City of Brandon, Manitoba, Canada

The Brandon Riverbank Discovery Centre and Interpretive Trail was another initiative of the Brandon Assiniboine River Corridor Master Plan and serves as a focus for environmental education and natural preservation. The site is located at an area once used as a borrow pit susceptible to flooding by the Assiniboine River.

Ducks Unlimited had assisted in the development and financing of the Discovery Centre, which functions as a multi-use interpretive nature facility and office space. The Centre operates year-round and includes wetland environmental education, nature interpretation, research, recreation and facility administration. The building portion of the facility contains the Ducks Unlimited offices, an interpretive gallery, meeting rooms, multi-purpose space, waterfowl exhibits, tourism internet kiosks, and gift/book shop.

Outside the Discovery Centre building Ducks Unlimited and the Brandon Riverbank Inc. had converted the adjacent borrow pit and flood plain into a waterfowl sanctuary.  Site landscaping and an interpretive trail program was developed by Lombard North Group to complement the waterfowl sanctuary, which focuses on the surrounding river habitat for outdoor education, self-guiding interpretive trails, viewing areas, floating boardwalks and visitor service facilities.

The Brandon Riverbank Discovery Centre and Outdoor Interpretive Trail has been recognized with the 2001 Attractions Canada Award.
